Personal Mechanical sessions.
After a few calls to teach my customers repairs and servicing I am now offering Personal Mechanics sessions.
Bicycle Maintenance is not a black art! Learn exactly how to fix your own bike in the workshop with one to one personal tuiton. Have your own personal mechanic mentor answer, demonstrate then teach you anything you want to know about your bike. Bike Anatomy, How gears, brakes, bearings work. Pre and post ride checks. Fault diagnosis. Knowledge is power!
This service is only available at the Horsforth Workshop and is charged at an hourly rate of £40 per hour.
Maintainence classes are being planned now for the Autumn of 2011
There will be 4 classes starting with:
Lesson 1 bike familiarity and the anantomy of a bike. What all the parts on your bike are and what they do. This will then lead on to basic repairs such as puncture fixing and how to clean and oil your bike.
Lesson 2 will concentrate on gears and shifters. How to clean and setup both your front and rear gears on a bike. What parts are compatible with what and how to spot why your gears are not working. Both road and MTB gearing systems will be covered.
Lesson 3 Is braking. How to safely clean your brake system before resetting back up your brakes. This covers pad changing, cable changing and brake balancing. Towards the end of the lesson we can go over how to bleed and setup hyrdraulic brakes for those that have them.
Lesson 4 will cover bearings and wheels. Headsets, Hubs, Bottom brackets and all other control points. How to strip/clean and regrease these important parts of your bike that often go untreated. Learn how to spot when a part is worn out and when it can be saved.
Locations, times and prices are yet to be confirmed. These will be dependant on how many per class are coming. Maximum will be 15 per class so each person gets as much out of it as possible. I will send out an invite to all my customers who have expressed an interest so far with more details then.
There will be a Demo work bike for each class demonstration and up to 3 free workstands for those who want to bring there own bike to work and learn on throughout the lessons.
There will be a Q & A session after each lesson.
Thats the bones of it so far. if you want to take part please email me with the header " maintenance class" and I will let you know the details.
